File System

File System in Secondary Storage Device:-

The file system is a way of organizing data records on the disk or any storage media. A file system is a  system that is implemented during the formatting of storage media. There are different file systems that are used in secondary storage devices.



Hard Disk Drive (File System):- There is three main file system used by Windows OS.

FAT 16 (File Allocation Table -16 bit)


FAT 32 (File Allocation Table -32 bit)


NTFS (New Technology File System)





File System for Optical Devices (CD/DVD)


CDFS (Compact disc file system) for CDs.


UDFS (Universal disc file system) for DVDs.
