Firmware

Firmware is a software program, used for hardware programming. It is permanently installed in a device usually by the manufacturer. The firmware provides the required set of instructions to a device for creating communication with the other hardware parts of the computer. Firmware is meant to control, operate, or maintain the hardware in the background, and not interact with users directly. Firmware can be updated with a firmware updater to make a device more efficient. Firmware exists between hardware and software, hence the name “firmware.”

Firmware is also called “embedded software” or “embedded system” because it is put into the hardware and it will not be able to alter or erase without the manufacturer’s help.

Firmware Example

In a Computer system, the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is an example of the firmware. BIOS includes the entire all the necessary information required during the booting operation of the computer.
