World Wide Web

Before reading WWW, must read some basic computer networking terms:-

Computer Network

A computer network is a group or set of computers that share some resources. There must be at least two or more computers to form a network. In networking, computers can be divided into two types Client and Server.

A Client computer is an individual computer that uses services provided by servers upon request. Clients are connected to server/s via the network, they can request to server/s for providing data like a website, web page, or any other type of information.

The server computer is a particular computer assembled with high-quality components for providing high-level performance over the network. A Server computer operates 24x7 days for providing uninterpretable services. Any client across the globe can access data from the server. The server can be Web Server, Data Server, Proxy Server, etc.

Types of Computer Networks

1. LAN (Local Area Network)

2. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)

3. WAN (Wide Area Network)

Internet Protocols

The set of rules and regulations is called protocols. In computer networking, every computer communicates with another computer over the network, so there is a need for some type of protocol for communication. The most used protocol is TCP/IP.

TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol which is responsible for transmitting data.

IP stands for Internet Protocol, these protocols are responsible for maintaining the session between machines during data transmission.

World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is a system of Internet servers that support hypertext to access several Internet protocols on a single interface. The WWW was developed in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee of the European Particle Physics Lab (CERN) in Switzerland

Elements of WWW

  1. Web Server
  2. Web site
  3. Hypertext
  4. Hypermedia
  5. Hyperlinks
  6. Search Engine
  7. HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)
  8. Web Browser

Web server: -

Web servers are the computers on the internet that host websites, serving pages to viewers upon request.

Website: -

A website is a collection of web pages, images, videos, etc hosted on one or more web servers usually accessible via the Internet.

Hypertext: - Hypertext that contains links to other texts.

Hypermedia: - Graphics, video, and sound files on a web page.

Hyperlinks: -

An element in an e-document that links to another place in the same document or to an entirely different record.

Search Engine:-

A program that searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language):- HTML is used for describing the web page.

Web Browser:-

A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and may be a web page, image, video, or any other content.

A web browser can also be defined as application software or program designed to enable users to access, retrieve and view documents and other resources on the Internet.
